How No Collisions Make Better Physics

  Internet connectivity is critical infrastructure for modern high energy nuclear and particle physics experiments at laboratories around the world. Achieving the ambitious computing goals is dependent on reliable and fast connections between collaborators in geographically separate regions.
  In this talk we will discuss past performance and long-term trends. The relationship between network monitoring and user related tangibles such as throughput will be discussed and projections to assess the feasibility of future requirements will be reviewed. We will examine the networks involved and plans for their upgrades. Several monitoring projects currently in use at laboratories will be discussed and their strengths and weaknesses will be compared.
  The importance of routing and peering will be of particular interest, as we intend to identify the recipe for success.
