The KEK-CERN connectivity is being provided by NACSIS and TEN-155 for
the production network. Separately from the production network,
a 2Mbps satellite link has been provided by MPT (Japanese Ministry of Post
and Telecommunication) and ESA (European Space Agency) as a test
bed since May 1999. It is called JEG (Japan-Europe Gamma) Experiment.
Its earth stations are located at Yamaguchi in Japan and at Leuk in
Switzerland. The link is totally ATM based, and three PVCs connecting KEK
and CERN are configured there. MONARC, H.323, and IPv6 were major three
subjects planned to be tested there. Various tests have been done
successfully by cooperation of KEK and CERN. Since the traffic for these
tests are routed differently from the other traffic, the tests are done
without being affected by the congested production network. This paper
will summarize what we've learned from the KEK-CERN JEG Experiment.
