Asset Management for Cavities and Computers at DESY

  The maintenance, support and documentation of technical equipment requires various tools based on self-made databases or card index boxes. This situation causes many problems like the different name of apparatus in different groups. On this account a pilot project started in August `99 at DESY to solve those problems with an Asset Management System. Right now about 18.000 assets like accelerator components (e.g. cavities, magnets (including solenoids), electric circuits, power supplies) and IT devices (computers, network components, etc.) are inventoried. A web tool allows associated persons to find locations, reports and the history of specified assets.
  This talk is related to the first experiences of the in this pilot tested Asset Management System (AssetCenter from Peregrine Systems).
